Alpine Dam

Rode to Alpine Dam with Sam, one of the mechanics at Bike Nut. Started at the shop at around 6:40 (AM) and finished back there around 10:00. Probably the longest ride I've done to date. Really enjoyed it.

What I brought with me:

i wouldnt bother adding salt to your water if you're eating food while riding - the food should have enough salt in it naturally and might have added salt too,,,

Where is Alpine Dam?

You brought a tube but no pump or tire levers?

What route did you take from SF->Alpine? Especially since it only took you a bit over 3 hours to complete it, at an average speed of 16-18mph!

Yeah, I was lazy. I just packed a tube and borrowed a c02 at the shop, assuming Sam had a pump and tire lever. Weak, I know.

How did we get there? I'm not sure. I was just following Sam, fastly.

I loved the salted water, even if it's psycho-somatic. At Seven Sisters I almost started to get a quad cramp, but avoided it.

P.S. - the last time I rode Alpin Dam it was raining and foggy and I missed the turn and ended up in Bolinas. I was the sweep on a Velo Girls ride and had to hustle my buns over the hill back to Mill Valley. I laughed and was Singin' in the Rain. I guess it was a great ride.

i'm not suggesting that it's psychosomatic, i'm suggesting that there's no point adding excess salt if you're already consuming some salt in the form of food. i don't know if your energy bars have salt added to them. if they dont then adding a bit to your drink probably wasnt a bad idea!

table salt isn't particularly good for you though as it doesnt contain any of the other electrolytes that your body needs (magnesium, potassium etc.). tis best to eat stuff like bananas if you can (high in potassium as well as other nutrients, and it's more slowly absorbed than salt dissolved in water), or try and get electrolyte tablets from a sports nutrition store...
